I first used for my computer fighting games:
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Controlle.../dp/B001AATQ0Y Something like that, with an official PS2 Controller.
But sometimes it registers me as the wrong port, and it would sometimes make me walk downright.
Switching from one port to the other after my game has already started would fix the problem.
So I switched to a single one instead.

Something like that. Still with PS2 Controller.
Works fine as I can tell.
(Note, you can probably find them on other places [Ebay?] for cheaper)
But I opted for Wireless, so now I'm using PS3 with a bluetooth adapter (since I don't have native bluetooth on the comp I'm using Ougon Musou with).
And the Program (And drivers) of Motioninjoy.
I just think the Playstation controllers feel the best in the hand, and are reliable. So I've always used them.
Spoiler for Button/Command List:

I believe Shift works as Taunt, and A to switch.

Also:
S = Touch
W = Pause
Along with what Kirroha:
[Down-Up
(27 / 28 / 29)] for Super Jump
[Away-Away
(44)] to Back Step
[Toward-Toward
(66)] To run
[Toward-Toward
(66)] during Strong Attacks for Dash Cancel (Uses Partner Gauge)
[Touch
(S)] While blocking for Guard Touch
[Touch
(S)] While attacking for Attack Touch
[Touch
(S)] While getting hit for Damage Touch (Uses 2 Supers of partner)
[Down-Downtoward-Toward-Touch
(236S)] for Assault Touch (Uses 2 Supers of Partner)
[Down-Downtoward-Toward-Down-Downtoward-Toward-Strong
(236236C)] Uses two super bars, and your character dashes toward the enemy, if it connects they perform a super combo. Can be blocked.
[Toward-Away-Down-Toward-Strong
(6426C)] *Requires Metafield* Character performs their unique MetaSuper. Does not require any super bars to active.
Unless I missed anything, those are all of the generic commands.
