Just watched the last episode (I'm late I know) and feel like I do have to express my feelings about it...
Spoiler:
First of all I think the anime went straight downhill after the showdown between Light and L... it would've been better in my opinion if the anime just ended there and let the rest of the stuff unfolding "in the dark/in the second season". It was kinda ridiculous to suddenly have these two boys pop outta nothing and continue the L legacy. Especially Near... I would've agreed if they made him a clone of L (I mean, the damn kid does the same shit, has the same eyes, face, hair, the same annoying behavoir but he just seemed to be around at the right time.
Also was very dissapointed in Light in one of the later episodes when he lets his father take the notebook to trade... I mean wtf? You want to become a God of a new world and decide to let the tools of power just be taken away? If he had any brains he would've replaced the notebook or at least prevent it to be reachable by the outside world. Then the gigantic missile that came outta nowhere was silly too... ofcourse the Mafia would've had connections in the military that allowed secret construction/transportation of all this I guess *sigh*.
In the following episodes I began to wonder why the hell Light kept sticking in the same damn place with the same damn people who didn't trust him anyway. He obviously had enough loyal followers throughout the world... why not get rid of everyone and start somewhere else with people who trust you? Hell, take a plane to Zimbabwe and start there, small chance super-uber-rich white kids are going to search there.
But sure, if he did stick and managed to get the support of the President, why the hell not bomb the hell outta the whole building Near was in instead of sending a fat guy on a helicopter? Why not send in Delta Force to shoot everyone up?
Then in the final episode when Near did the "plot twist" of switching *both* notebooks (because banks are easy to break into in like 5 minutes), why the hell couldnt Mikami stab himself a liiiittle sooner so Light would've been able to run away *without* wounds and *with* the small note?
I got the feeling they killed off Light (in the manga and the anime) because of the message that "killing isn't good no matter what kids!" should be spread and I'm kinda dissapointed in that. Sure Light took it a bridge too far by killing those commiting only small crimes but hey, at least crime rate went down.
Also dissapointed they didn't show the world getting into a nuclear war (since Kira died) and destroying itself after the ending credits. That would've made the entire ending (and series) totally perfect again. Would've made that 7 at least a 9. Ah well.
