Now I have my lighter and softer show to balance out my weekly Mabu Rabu.
Chuunibyou, a word to describe that embarrassing moment in our life. I indeed could recognize myself in some of the things described in this episode. Like I have said earlier, for me, it was a mix of Lovecraft and Michael Moorcock with a dash of Clamp (especially RG Veda and X/1999). Add to that my first incursion in
gothic metal (
read the lyrics of that song, you can understand why it would appeal to a chuuni), and King of Fighters when
Iori Yagami appeared to me as a totally awesome character.
In the light of this, you can understand why it was both funny AND embarrassing to watch this episode. And I think that self-deprecation in regard of our younger selves IS the point of this anime. To me, it worked.
15/20 for the first episode.
