I don't mind this (like Lawrence saying "slave trading is just legitimate business !", it's obvious that it's done for this purpose).
But sensibilities of the time isn't really relevant, as it's not slavery per se that is the point, but the fact that it's about playing around the sale of
his girlfriend.
