I think Daikichi can sense there's some deep pain in Yukari's past - you got just a little sense of the challenges she faces in raising a son, and the guilt she feels about not giving Kouki a more "normal" childhood. Her fragility is scaring him, just a bit.
Also, it's obvious Daikichi doesn't give himself enough credit. The single Dad thing is a big winner in the romance department - the women at Rin's school were certainly flirting hard enough.
