Did Maiya kiss him there though? I honestly can't remember that happening but it's been a while since I read that part.

The dialogue may have been the same but the vibe definitely wasn't. As you pointed out earlier yourself, how they have axed off Kiritsugu's laments is removing a lot of weight from his scenes. They removed just how sorrowful and how deeply in love with Irisviel he was in episode 1 (none of the hug scene) and here they cut his lament short again. Combine the two with the fact that they would have had enough trouble to get the feeling right because most of the scene's effect lied on the narrator's explanation of Kiritsugu's feelings (you would know how detailed it was - how much Kirtisugu didn't enjoy that kiss but just how determined Maiya's action was and all that - all described in the non-dialogue parts). Sure they kept the dialogue word per word - but the gravity of the scene was orders of magnitude less.

The problem is that is impossible to add the narrator to the anime, unfortunately for Kiritsugu and Kirei narration is what gives them much of their personalities, intentions and overall feelings, but after reviewing the anime and the LV, I dont see how they could of made the Maiya scene any better, again without including some sort of narration...
Overall the Episode was really nice, missing a few details here an there, but hopefully they'll explain them later on.
