It seems the Vajra may be attracted to certain singing voices. It certainly seems like it because it responded twice to Ranka's scream/singing in the show. Macross 7 influences? I think so!.

During that scene a bit after when the Vajra was "Awakening" there was markings on one of their "ships" I suppose that were spiral-shaped (maybe my imagination). Protoculture/Supervision Army remnant perhaps? heh, probably not
