I can't imagine how aircraft would be safe, unless the battle judging system just forces them to fly home after being ruled inoperable. That still doesn't help mid-air collisions, unless there is the
GI Joe scenario and the pilots always manage to safely eject despite whatever damage happens to their aircraft. Which still leaves the larger problem of colliding with the
ground, which I don't think can be helped by carbon lining.
