I think both Takashi and Rei didn't fulfill their own part in the promise, Takashi doing it first and Rei following so.
Well, I for one never saw Saeko X Takashi as something serious as the things between Rei X Takashi, but I'm probably biased because I pretty much dislike Saeko plenty. xD
