I considered that myself, but "species" leads me to believe that Oda was specifically referring to non-human creatures, and I'm pretty sure that Minkmen counts as a type of human (albeit an "evolved" race, like the fish-people). Hence why I'm leaning towards the idea of new species of animals being created through the Smiles (sure, it would most likely still be humans who transform into those new species, but let's leave the semantics for another time, shall we?
).
That being said, I am also interested in seeing the rest of those other races, as well (Minkmen, Dwarves, and Snake-necks are the only ones that remain a mystery, I believe)....
