*Smith parks jeep at open parking lot*
Smith: Can you stand up Wes?
Wesson: Somehow, I can. I’m much tougher than you think.
Mai: I see.
*Mai and Smith help Wesson up*
Wesson: Remember Mai, not even your Demon Form is a match for me!
Smith: Us you mean.
Wesson: I can’t be killed by you Mai!
Mai: *Chainsaw revs*
There are fates worse than death.
Wesson: *sweats profusely* never mind what I just said…
Mai: *stores Astaroth* Right.
Smith: You might want to keep that away in front of General Maxim.
Mai: Maxim-sama?
Smith: Yes the General. He’s the one we’re visiting to formally meet you.
Wesson: And also to hand over your applications.
Mai: I understand. *opens up holodisplay*
Smtih: You’re still reading that Mai?
Mai: *nods*
Wesson: But you already know your own powers and abilities. No reason to read them from a third party.
Mai: …
Someone once said to me, “You don’t need a reason to do something you like. Just do it.”
Smith: I wonder who said that…
Mai: …
You did.
Smith: Oh… go on then.
Mai: *blinks*

As an Armed Device, Astaroth is equipped with a 3-round sliding bolt cartridge system, common in most staff weapons of its type. It is mounted at the bottom tip of the staff, using 5.56 caliber cartridges. Due to the unique condition of her Linker Core, Mai’s combat style is heavily reliant on cartridge use in order to conserve her own Linker Core energy – on average, Mai is required to use at least 3 cartridges for any spell ranked A and above, regardless of effects. Further improvements to the storage capacity of Mai’s Linker Core battery should enhance her energy management needs during spell casting, and the addition of an AI to her device should further reduce the strain on her condition.
Asides from Astaroth, Mai can also conserve energy using specially made glass charms, which resemble a caricature of the human body, with the symbol for Venus engraved in its center. These charms store a limited of magical energy inside them, and each preprogrammed with a single spell. When used, these charms form a string of light around the neck of the figure, which is then pulled to activate the programmed spell. Not only does this save time, the charms themselves can also be used by other people, even those without magic ability, simply by pulling the string. And because the magical energy is already stored using it requires no magic on Mai’s part.
(It is noted that these charms were inspired by similarly-designed straw dolls that Mai used as the Hell Girl).
Limitations to the use of these charms include the extensive preparation necessary to infuse the charm with the necessary magical energy and program the desired spell, and each charm can only be used a single time before requiring recharging and reprogramming. Also, due to the energy storage limits of the charms they can only be programmed with spells no higher than A+ rank.
Mai has three of these charms, one blue, one red, and one black, corresponding to the three types of Chaos magic disciplines that Mai is proficient at; namely
Standard spells,
Illusions and
Demon Invocations respectively.
Individual details on her spells are as follows:
Standard Spells - These spells are similar to most Midchilda type effects, with the exception of using Chaos magics. They pack more power per rank than equivalent Mid spells, but sacrifices accuracy and range in the process.
Ranged Standard:
Doom Bolt: A multiple shooter spell, this spell creates multiple unguided energy balls, which can be used to bombard a target area. Additionally, the balls explode and splinter on impact, further devastating anyone caught in its blast radius.
Doom Flak: Similar to Doom Bolt, but explodes on command, making it useful as an anti-air area spell.
Doom Spike: A single shot spell which forms a spike of dark energy that is shot at hypersonic speed. Effective at penetrating heavy armor.
Doom Shotgun: Shoots several hundred tiny balls of unstable dark energy at the target area. Devastating at close range, but loses effectiveness after only a few meters. Instantaneous casting time and damage spread make it ideal for indoor combat.
Doom Blaze: Mai can shoot forth a jet of black flame that instantly burns anything it touches.
Doom Saber: In Eviscerator Form, Mai can concentrate spinning energy around Astaroth’s sawblade, before launching it at the target through a swing. Highly effective cutting spell, but very inaccurate.
Chaos Meteor: Mai forms a mass of dark energy that she discharges as a massive ball towards a target. Often used for demolition of large, heavily fortified structures. Due to the time it takes to cast it is not often used in direct combat.
Chaos Whip: Forms a solid whip of dark energy on Mai’s hands, used for mid-range combat and binding, as well as other utilities.

Smith / Wesson: Whips?
*looks at each other*
----------
Meteor Hammer: Combining Chaos Meteor and Chaos Whip forms this weapon, where a condensed ball of dark energy is attached to a Chaos whip, granting Mai limited control over its movements. Used primarily as a mid-range demolition weapon.
Melee Standard:
Black Impact: Mai can charge her fists with dark energy, which enhances the power of her punches. Rarely used due to combat preferences.
Black Crozius: Charges the head of Astaroth with unstable dark magic. The magic explodes upon impact, dealing massive explosive damage to the target. Used rarely, as Astaroth itself is damaged when using this spell.
Black Chainsaw: Eviscerator Form’s extended mode. When active, a second roundsaw, made out of dark energy is created, and connected to Astaroth’s head via two energy chains, forming a large chainsaw. This variant is Mai’s most powerful melee weapon.

Bind Standard:
Chains of Torment: Mai’s most powerful bind spell, Chains of Torment unleashes dark energy chains that burst out from the ground and completely bind the target. The more the target resists, either physically or through magic, the tighter the chains wrap until the spell is cancelled or the victim is killed. This spell requires a large solid surface to be cast on, and has limited range, making it ineffective in air combat. Also it is easily dispelled by Divine magics.
Demon Grip: One of the most unusual bind spells ever recorded, Mai can use invisible dark energy to bind an opponent simply by gripping them, binding the body part affected. Traditional bind dispel techniques do not work on this spell, and unlike Chains of Torment can be used in midair. However, physical contact must be made for the spell to work.

Smith: *whispers* Whips…
Wesson: And Binds…
Smith: With gothic Lolita…
Wesson: Dressed in black…
*chainsaw revs*
Smith/Wesson: *sweats* Maybe not…

Defensive Standard:
Chaos Shield: Similar to traditional Round Shields, only using the Midchilda Chaos Circle.
Illusion spells – Chaos Illusion differ from standard Midchilda Illusion spells in their execution: while the latter aims to change the external appearance of an object via optical camouflage, the former directly implants the illusion into the target’s mind, creating a more visceral experience. Unlike with simple Illusions, Chaos Illusions can influence all five of a target’s senses, blurring the line between what’s real and what’s not. As a drawback though, Chaos Illusions require more power to affect multiple people than equivalent standard spells, and is thus most effective when used on less than two people. Mai has three different illusion spells available, all three of which requires eye contact, along with the proper spell activation to use:
Ocularis Infernum: This illusion type amplifies a person’s deepest negative feelings (fear, doubt, hate) and distorts it into visions of ugliness that further provokes that person’s emotions. This creates a feedback loop that traps the person inside the illusion unless he is able to reduce all trace of negative emotion within him, or after the spell expires within 3 minutes.
Ocularis Malum: More versatile than Ocularis Infernum, this spell allows Mai to trap a person inside any illusion of her making for one minute once they have made eye contact.
Ocularis Terribum: Mai’s ultimate terror spell, where she amplifies a person’s greatest fears and manifests in that person’s consciousness as physical beings. The psychological damage from this spell is evident in Mai’s victims during her time as Hell Girl. This spell also requires the most concentration from Mai in order to prevent the spell from collapsing, unlike with Malum or Infernum:
Demon Summoning- Chaos magic is unique amongst Midchilda-based disciplines for its ability to create living beings simply through a coalescence of dark energy, thus the tern
Dark Energy Monsters, or
D.E.MONS. Most Demons created in this manner are extremely unstable, and will eventually collapse and disintegrate after enough time in the material universe. However, the power of these Demons is formidable; Mai’s recollection from the archives of the Crozius Maleficus point to the ability of A-rank Chaos Magi to summon a Demon 2 ranks his own level in terms of power.
The shape and form of most Demons summoned via Midchild-Type Chaos magic tend to be wildly random; no two demons are alike, as per the unstable nature of Dark Energy. However, Mai can summon demons that fall into two categories: Ground and Aerial demons, which inhabit their respective elements. Ground demons are created with brute physical strength and durability, while Aerial Demons are created to serve as light, fast raiders that rely on numbers to overwhelm their prey-

Smith: We’re here.
Mai: *looks up* Where are we?
Smith: The clerks up front told me this is the room where Glock was staying at the moment.
Wesson: Thought we’d drop by a surprise on him before we went to the General. He’d want to rest after his travels, so let's drop by!
Mai: … Indeed.
Smith: Shall we Wes?
Wesson: Ready when you are.
Smith: One!
Wesson: Two!
Smith / Wesson: THREE!!!
