Chapter 3 arrived today and I decided to watch all ten episodes.
They were quite interesting these last four episodes.
Spoiler
for
Chapter 3 spoilers
:
Episode 7:
Pretty much like the original episode 10 were the crew is allowed to call Earth one last time before Yamato leave the Solar System. Added was the crossing of the equator party tradition. Kodai and Yamamoto trade with crewmen on duty with families to allow them to take to their loved ones. The calls home we saw from Shima and the Chief were pretty much normal, though we get hits that things are still not good on Earth even in terms of food.
We see Kato's father briefly. But was is interesting is that they gave Nambu Yuki's family to some extent. The mother worried about a proper girlfriend and a father that wants him to take over the family business (Yuki just had the worried mother if I recall). Yuki has been under Hijikata's care for the last year and says she has no memories before that. And Niimi is focused on colonizing other worlds to save humanity (in case the mission to Iscandar fails and is under orders of the General formerly in charge of the Izumo Plan). The relationship chart is all over the place with multiple females on the ship. Kodai is still clueless I think.
Episode 8:
Very much like a mix of the Minefield and Red Star episodes. The Captain recovers quicker this time around, and is able to give orders, even if slightly delayed. Dessler does honor Schultz a bit in the end and the Talans remake on the Wave Motion Gun being similar to something they research teams are working on.
Episode 9:
Not like any previous episode. It is a rather good (if sad) tale about Analyser and Alter with the backdrop of another science fiction story being told over YRA Radio Yamato. Also between this and the next episode, give more point to Yurisa being the ship's autopilot, rather than Yuki. Or the goddess of the ship.
Episode 10:
Interesting little warp accident. Also the Gamilas battlecrusier had only been lost for a few days when it ran into Yamato. Its captain seems to be one of those honorable types like Captain Ram from the Bolar Wars series. Or a more traditional Klingon ('It would be my honor to trade shots with you in battle'). Goer is an ass, but he was an ass in the original as well. But he's just added failure on top of failure with the loss of a fleet. Including another of those starfish like carriers. Yamato's new blue guess seems honorable, but from her take on the war, it would be interesting to find out what the Gamilas have been told about Earth...since she says the humans started the war.
Onward to Chapter 4!
Also Dessler has be ruling for 103 years at this point. Doesn't look a day over 30.
