I don't think so, it's not like Kouga actually knew he was going into Palaestra when he left. He (and everyone else, really) seemed to be worried mostly with Mars at the time. Although to be honest, that development up there was to be somewhat expected with all the hints we've been getting.

It seems like the show now has some sort of tournament arc, and with all the hints they've been dropping that 'Athena is alright' when we all know that she isn't, the series seems to be structured in a way that is reminiscent of the original Saint Seiya. Tournament arc between Saints and then, if I'm not wrong, we might get some sort of confrontation between Gold Saints and Bronze Saints a la Sanctuary arc of the original? I definitely wouldn't mind, especially since it'd probably fuel the show with enough action sequences for Umakoshi and the rest of the team to work their magic!

I'm pretty sure this is what is going to happen, the problem is that we were told there are only two active Gold Saint at the moment so they'll have to find other enemies as well... Maybe Silver Saints won't suck as much this time around?

The pic posted revealed another big information about Iona: he has the power to control people through his words. It's probably something similar to the Genrou mao ken.

My guess is that Iona brainwashed everybody but Shaina in the sanctuary, and the weakened Athena was forced to escape and go into hiding with her, waiting for Seiya to come back or for Kouga to become stronger.

Ryuho is most likely aware of this (Shiryu obviously can't have been brainwashed by Iona since he can't hear anymore), that would explain why he was surprised Kouga knew Athena's real name even though something like that should be common knowledge among the Saints.
