I just finished this series and I loved it.
I read the last couple of pages here for some other opinions and it seems most of them are good. I didn't pick up on any of the metaphors or foreshadowing, I just let the story carry me along and felt like it kept the romantic tension at a "just right" level throughout with a "just right" amount of side stories.
I totally felt a connection with Elis from the beginning and was surprised and delighted at the ending. I thought it was pretty standard for the oniichan girl to get left out in the end in these adaptations. I came away from this with a serious afterglow feeling that is still lingering. Elis has become one of my favorite anime girls.
I know I'll be watching this one again. I feel like I've discovered a rare gem with this series.
