Ah cmon, it's perfectally logical when faced down by a mecha with a cannon pointed at you to go KAMIKAZE! and stuff yourself in the barrel!
Jokes aside this episode really wasn't meant to be serious, it played up to the tropes to the max, Akane's being the idiot hero.
