It felt to me more of a situation where Asemu is blinding himself with his internal struggle. He claims to understand, but he's digging himself a deeper hole everytime he puts himself to comparison of either Zeheart, Flit or the idealised version of himself.
Given the context, I feel that it's more likely Asemu will survive, but only realise his folly through an extremely bitter pill at the very end of his arc. May or may not include Zeheart/Woolf sacrificing themselves for Asemu, etc.
If Asemu's days are really numbered, and he actually dies in his blind pursuit of self-worth, then it would be a really really tragic.
