I found a pretty easy way to get my MKV files to the open source dvd flick.

There is a program called Any Video Converter that will convert MKV to MPEG-II.
You can then put the MPEG-II into DVD Flick which will allow you to watch your video file on a regular dvd player with or without menus. If you do use DVD flick there is an advanced option in the video section that allows you to stream the MPEG-II which makes conversion process much quicker.

I downloaded both of these programs for free.
