I think (I hope) you misunderstand. The old woman herself nailed it. Its only a small shift in weight from "pride" to "conceit". Prideful warriors routinely overestimate themselves and get killed. Prideful warriors don't think they can be hurt. Pride is the downfall of most well-meaning people. Dante wrote a whole book about the damages that pride causes.
Being *proud* of your accomplishment i justifiable... boasting about it or not recognizing that others helped you to get there isn't.
Oboro is just the kind of young man that armies tend to put in front. Young men often run under the illusion they're unstoppable and suffer from many of the problems just stated ... and they die in unnecessary number because they're not prudent.
