Totally agree with Lord of Fire on that, but I will add that it is not only an anime cliche, but an
entertainment-in-general cliche.
I've seen it plenty of times outside of anime (i.e. in Hollywood movies, in live-action sitcoms, in comic books, etc...)
Still, wherever I see it (including anime), it now annoys me. I think it's done mainly to stretch out a romance really. To tease the shippers, and troll-ishly say "
Ha ha! You're going to have to keep tuning in to our show if you want to see these two kiss and/or make out like that!"
