I don’t think it’s a matter of “self enhancement” like wearing pads. I view the “horns” kinda like a “crown” in human world. Human Kings wear crown coz it’s one of the marks of kingship. It’s as simple as that. Like, if there's a human who is born with a crown on his head, it's cool. When he became a king, he doesn't need to wear the artificial one
.
Also, if you read the manga so far, many (if not majority) demon species/clans don't have "built-in" horns. So, I think saying the (artificial) horns are similar to a crown is more fitting.
