A writer's main concern should be that his work is interesting and/or entertaining. Wanting to please everybody will inevitably impede on your creative freedom at some point. It's best to do what makes you happy, and hope others will like it. It's important to take criticism into account, but I don't think it's good to let others dictate what you should write otherwise you'll just end up making some sort of fanfiction. A good writer needs to be a little selfish.
