I don't ever recall anything saying that yo was generally used by female. I've just seen it taught as a sentence ender used for certainty, emphasis, etc.

No, he doesn't have a history of adding secret meanings to his twitter messages, but he's had twitter for less than a year. He does seem to like letter and number games though, so something like this would be right up his alley.
