It's already going poorly with Western fans. I've seen people blaming it for KyoAni not animating Little Busters to saying the designs are ripping off Another. Haters are going to hate regardless. The same thing happened with previous KyoAni shows, especially Hyouka.

Spoiler for ANN's mistake leading to confusion already (NOVEL SPOILERS:

)ANN already screwed over the fans with their "summary" back in December. They ran a translation of the second novel's story. That novel won't be animated, so people are expecting a character who won't show up. People are already going to be confused based on that alone since MAL and blogs copied/pasted that summary for the show. I've been doing my best to correct it, but I can only do so much.

So I supposed Japanese fans react better than Western then. Is the source material well recieved in Japan?

And thanks for the crucial information. That's too bad, since I'm looking forward to the triangle aspect but this also left something to be desired in future adaptation. That is, if Kyoani manages to turn one volume adaptation of TV anime series into a Haruhi which IMO doesn't sound that great on paper. Really, I’m not sure I fully understand why the studio is willing to go through all this.

Still looking forward to see how it turns out it but wasn’t expecting much anyway.
