We begin with Negi engaged in a practice aerial duel with Setsuna. Setsuna gets in the first hit, sending Negi flying, but he recovers quickly and throws his "Arrows of Light" spell x 17 at Setsuna. She dodges them all and dives on him, but Negi pulls out a spectacular vertical dodge manoeuvre and returns the favour. Setsuna is surprised, but she's fast enough to turn and meet him head-on in an explosive clash. Anya, watching from the sidelines, is rendered totally speechless.
We cut to after the match. Negi acknowledges that he still can't compare to Setsuna, but she's surprised and impressed with how quickly he grasped the manoeuvre he used. Anya arrives and Negi asks her what she thought, but she brushes that off - wide-eyed, she demands to know where he learned such incredible magical combat skills. She's never seen such a thing even in the advanced magical textbooks. She's further stunned by how strong the others are, an impression only reinforced by seeing Kaede and Ku Fei sparring, and then a short comedy scene where Haruna draws wings on Asuna to allow her to fly. Unfortunately, they both forget about the time limit on Haruna's creations and Asuna goes plummeting... but in midair she summons her Artifact (the full sword, not the harisen), jams it into the wall she's falling past and ends up standing on it.
Anya turns to Nodoka and Yue and asks, in a state of shock, why everyone is so amazing. Yue attributes it to a clear purpose and a good teacher. Anya asks who their teacher was, and Yue tells her it's Evangeline. Anya has heard of the legendary dark mage vampire, of course, and the conversation goes rapidly downhill from there, hitting rock bottom when Eva comes over for a look and deliberately scares Anya with her illusory adult form. Anya panics, thinking she's about to be eaten, and flees at high speed.
Yue and Nodoka give chase and explain to her that Evangeline isn't a bad person anymore. Anya finally accepts all of this, but is still annoyed that Negi got so good - she's been training hard in combat magic herself, and feels it's frustrating and unfair that Negi is still ahead of her. Hearing that, Nodoka asks if Anya was training for Negi's sake, which an embarrassed Anya immediately denies. She proceeds to wonder why Negi became Evangeline's disciple and decides it must be because of Eva's... assets... prompting Nodoka to explain that Eva's true form looks younger than Anya and that measurements had nothing to do with it.
Cheered up, Anya promptly declares that Nodoka and Yue are her friends. At this, Yue briefly consults with Nodoka and the two of them tell Anya that, since they're friends, she needs to know something... and pull out their Pactio cards.
Negi and Kotarou are talking in the hallway when Anya storms past with her belongings, saying a frosty goodbye to Negi. Nodoka and Yue are right behind her, apologising to Negi for the mess.
Very upset, Anya tells herself that she can't believe Negi has made contracts with seven girls. She tries unsuccessfully to open the gate out of Eva's pocket dimension, only for Negi to show up and tell her that it won't open for 24 hours. She promptly punches him and then starts a brawl, yelling that it's only been half a year and he's already kissed seven girls. She calls him a lecher, "ero-Negi" and an enemy of women, declaring that he's not the Negi she knew, and accuses him of forgetting all about their village while he was surrounded by beautiful girls. Winding up for a final punch, Anya complains that Negi became a dark mage's disciple, a womaniser and a playboy, and he might as well become an evil mage...
Then Negi stops her punch cold, palm to fist. Holding her wrist and moving closer, he tells her that it's all right, he hasn't forgotten, and their village is why he's training with everyone now - to find his father. Anya turns her head in embarrassment and asks him why he's still talking about that - he replies that his father's not dead. Putting his other hand on her shoulder, he asks her to listen. He says he hasn't forgotten, and that he can't forget. He's moving forward, to bring a conclusion to the events of that snowy night (with a flashback background of their village burning)... and he wants to know the meaning and reason for why he's here, like this, now.
Anya stands for a moment with her face flushed, then calls him an idiot, quietly. But then she says she understands, and to let her go, as Nodoka and Yue look on.
