Episode 20 thoughts in spoiler space below. Slight references to differences between this episode and the VN there...
Spoiler for Steins;Gate Episode 20:
The last few minutes of this episode was executed magnificently. Such exquisitely excellent execution. Since the rest of the episode was at the very least, solid, I felt that this episode deserved a 10/10, and so that's what I rated it.
I loved the extremely well-conveyed intensity of many of the scenes in this episode, and how it helped to flesh out Moeka's character, and make her a bit more sympathetic. I can't say that this episode did much for my take on Mr. Braun, but his antagonist reveal was still reasonably well-done.
I haven't read the Steins;Gate VN, so I don't know all the details here obviously, but I have to say that I'm very glad that this "psycho loli" was kept out. I think that portraying Nae that way would have really conflicted nastily with the admirably realistic (for the most part) atmosphere and tone of this anime.
In fact, WhiteFox's choice here has raised my respect for the studio. VNs, like every entertainment medium, has certain... common excesses, shall we say... and knowing when they pop up (and hence need to be reigned in a bit) is a key when adapting a narrative from one medium to another, imo.
All-in-all, superb episode, and an even better cliffhanger. Can't wait until the next episode! ^_^
