EhEh, I've been following this forum for a long time but I wanted to finish the novels before posting.
I enjoy your comments and arguments a lot : )
And so today, I come to you quite puzzled.
I'm enjoying the series so far but somehow I have this sensation that the whole thing is "progressively" (uhuhuh) getting out of hand.
I'll spare you the "why is volume 8 borderline porn all of a sudden?"
And jump directly to the main course:
The Rawmance!
And what better example to illustrate my worries than Houki...
I, personally root for Charlotte in here (plz don't kill me^^).
HOWEVER I don't dislike Houki (In most anime/manga I actually prefer more girls of her "type"). But somehow in this series I feel sad because I don't see her as a girl. For me she's just a walking plot device...
Let's get this straight; I'm ok if Houki is meant to be the cover girl. It's Izuru's story he can do what he wants. But this is were the problem is IMO. Houki is not the problem; no, the problem is the way Houki is used in the story. The story seems to always follow the same organisation (mostly)
One of the non-houki girls manages to progress on the social link, the plot unfolds a bit *BAM* Houki appears and gets the lead back because "lol childhood, kendo and traditions!"
The IS users gather for an event, battle, etc... *BAM* Houki gets a new IS, a new weapon (she already has a sword that shoots lasers and now a long range rifle so I'm going right now to call the rifle that shoots katanas that shoot lasers as her next weapon!)
I mean is it really that hard to write another 2 page chapter just to give a more plausible reason for her to get buffed?!
I mean, plot powers is ok, however what I am really angry is how Izuru actually bothers to construct interesting and all tender in their own way girls (any of the non-houki ones and in my opinion Charl a bit more) just to have all their efforts broken by Houki who's just winning by default (and a few bentos here and there is not what I'm referring to!^^). It's just depressing!
Eh! with my IRL friend who also read the LNs we even came up with a "Houki Happens" catchphrase we would say every time she would get a unrelated random boost
And it's now getting worse in the anime (season 2) and in volume 8.
Now Izuru (and/or whoever is pulling the strings) seems now to try really hard to make all the non-houki girls act like big perverts (which to be honest wasn't true for any of them up until recently) and "convince" the audience that Houki is the logical winner by default (by AGAIN doing nothing.)
It's like Izuru worked hard thinking we'll come to his Houki conclusion by ourselves and is now trashing his work because he's angry that people don't view it his way.
And that is really sad...
Did he get rejected by a "Houki-type" girl IRL and is now even more angry because he can't seem to make it work even in LN format?!^^
..
So now I'm left with a bitter taste in my mouth and a certain apprehension for the lovefest he promised us in volume 9 (If it comes out eventually^^).
He can still pull it back together imo so let's be optimistic!
PS: On a side note Tatenashi is pure win in every single format! : D
