Yes, that's what I'd read as well, and some suggested that it was Customs that may have done the "modifying", which makes a slight bit more sense than a store doing it. It's just really difficult for me to imagine a store damaging something in order to sell it.

Yes, the fact that it's this specific list of magazines and that they doubtless carry many other books and magazines with similar content (especially to Megami; that isn't any more "adult" than your average fanservice anime, really), makes me think it must be a specific complaint or issue rather than just "general fear".
