For that crazy wait on the 7-man, I believe "riichi" was my only Yaku. Nvm, I had Tanyao as well. My low point total told me: "Screw it. Just go for it." The "riichi" call allowed me to get Haneman off that.
I coin these as "Ninja Ron's". And oh, it's very much part of my repertoire for that reason. For example, my most recent game:

Win claimed based on 2 ninja ron's.
The first one: decided to just ron immediately at first opportunity not to put the hand to waste. Either that or wait for Iipeiko, but given the tightness of the game; it was better to get the points right then and there.
The second one: tempted to call "riichi" after the kan, for more access to the ura-dora. I decided to wait on it, especially when plenty of the 6-man and 9-man were already discarded. Better off being suspect here, and it paid off for the win.
Go to the Mahjong Group (sig. link). I have plenty of my games documented as such. Wins, losses, and everything else in between.
