I'm thinking Kubo's going for a round number, like 500 (or, if he gets his way, 1000), or a round unit of time, like ten years. This means that we're looking for another 50 chapters for an August 2011 finish, or another 84 for May/June 2012 finish (after which there are 6/7 months for the anime to finish before the world ends.
