You'd think this would be a pretty important concern from Battler's point of view. Another good question is why isn't she there with everyone? The fact that Battler had a little (half)sister and that she couldn't go to the family conference because she was sick was stated in the very first chapter of the first arc in the VN.
But any allusion to her was cut in the anime.
