Technically, this would have been less than a year before Melancholy begins, so the difference between "drool at Haruhi in Melancholy" and "drool at Sasaki in Rainy Day" is a matter of numbers rather than a visible difference in appearance--I mean teenagers don't change
that much visually in a single year unless it's the year in which they cross the puberty divide.
