I wasn't that much of a fan of One Piece, but I really like Fairy Tail since it draws up a lot of the standard-stock "Fantasy" genre while managing to remain fairly fresh and creative. I'm not too worried about the characters in a parallel world right now, since my favorite ones probably'll have a lot of plot armor for the time being. XD

I also like the random, quirky humor indicative of Mashima's work. I'm citing British novels here, but has anyone seen a resemblance between Fairy Tail and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series? The medium (manga vs. novels) and author nationality (British vs. Japanese) are different, but the style they're portrayed in seem pretty close.
