I think Haru's character-type is pretty common in shoujo manga.
Actually they tend to go way more on the deep end. For some reason shoujo girls can't help but fall in love with their abusive, would-be rapists in shoujo mangas.
Not to say that Haru is that far on the deep end, but close to it. But there's a good number of shoujo male leads that make Haru's action seem like a saint.
