The dame waltzed in, confident and assured, like a snake tightening on its next juicy meal. She gave off an air of trouble.
"I have a proposition for you, Mr. Ushiromiya," she said, getting straight to the matter as she poked her fan at me. She smelled of something nice, but not the kind you get at the local Stern's Department Store. It was the smell of money.

I didn't call her for a make-out; she wasn't like that. She knew how to throw lead and she was soft on the eyes. That, and she owed me a favor.

By the way, I wonder if it's any coincidence that there WAS a 1948 film noir movie called Bodyguard.
