It all started when I fifteen, or at least that's when I first understood what was happening.
Nanoha ran down the streets of her city, weaving in and out of people who seemed to almost be standing still. A ripple of air followed her every movement, trailing behind her and blowing a gust of wind through the sidewalks as the woman sprinted too fast for people to see. Small almost transparent wings of hot pink energy fluttered around her ankles, turning with every motion she made to help her navigate at the speeds.
At first it was just my speed. The first way I manged to harness my magic was to help me make it to a person who was about to be shot by a man robbing a small gas station. After that, I trained myself to focus the energy I possessed.
Nanoha skidded on the concrete, her school girl skirt fluttering in the wind as she stared at a gate an escaping purse snatcher climbed. Darting forward, she blurred slightly before leaping over it and landing a kick to the man's back, knocking him down and allowing her to grab the purse and sling it back over the metal gate. Sounds of footsteps came around the corner and a policeman along with a woman rounded the corner just intime to see a blast of wind scatter the trash in the alley around a man struggling to stand.
I soon realized that I had become stronger as well. In my days of spoiling small time crooks, I have been stabbed at a few times. The knives would just glance off of me, grazing against a pink type of energy that formed over my body whenever something could hurt me. I have even taken a direct shot and felt nothing but the air move around me as it bounced off my shields, which I had dubbed 'barriers'
Nanoha ran down the road outside of the city, taking in the falling leaves of the less populated area near her bakery. A smile was on her face and her eyes were wide with wonder. Slate blue eyes seemed to try and take in everything around her, feeling as if her help in the city had somehow made her appreciate the serenity of the area. A feeling of belonging swelled in her chest, and she reflected back on how she would always hide in the nearby park whenever she was upset or lonely.
I remember the day everything changed... That day where I met someone that would forever be interlaced in my destiny...
Nanoha gasped as she heard the screeching tires. Turning, she watched as a jet black car was trying desperately to stop before hitting two small children who had chased a squirrel from the parkway and onto the road leading off the exit from the overpass. The vehicle wouldn't make the stop in time and it swerved as Nanoha dashed towards it. The black car hit the grass and slid in the mud, making it turn sideways before going into the pond and finally catching enough to make the momentum turn it up on its side and fall over upside down in the water.
The brown haired jumped over the car, moving through the slow motion water droplets and splashing down, turning as quickly as she could and looking into the cracked driver's side window. A blonde female was dazed, her red eyes glazed as a trickle of blood was starting to leak from a cut on her head. Wasting no more time, Nanoha punched through the glass, her barrier forming to protect her hand. Pink magic laced over her fingers and a small crack came from the door hinge as it spread through the metal.
Two more tugs and Nanoha's magic formulated into a spell that allowed her to dislocate the door and blast it behind herself with a flick of her wrist. Her hands grabbed the blonde and pulled her out, sludging through the mud until she could lay the girl onto the grass beside the pond.
"Ugh... My head..." The red eyed female groaned and blinked several times before looking at her totaled car. "Wha... The kids, are they-?" Quickly turning, she saw the two children and exhaled lightly. "Thank god... but..." Looking back to Nanoha, she gave a curious stare. "Did you...?"
"Yes," Nanoha smiled down at her. "I pulled you out. I saw what happened and came as fast as I could to help."
"Th...thank you..." Sitting up, she held her head and took a small moment to collect herself. "I guess... that's what happens when you speed to take out your frustrations..."
"You should drive more safely, miss...?"
"Oh, I'm sorry... My name's Testarossa... Fate Testarossa."
Every time I look back, I wonder if I would change what happened on that day. Fate was the daughter of Precia, a woman who almost single handedly taken over most of my city with her corporation. That day signaled the start of our friendship, as well as the start of our destiony that we couldn't change...
No matter how much we wish we could.
