With savegame-usage I finished Miyako's Tsubame's, さくら and 桜's route in Sakura sakimashita. And yes, I revise my previous statement about my bad-drama anxiety. The drama was actually handled pretty well. Obviously a - for me - strong character cast helped a lot and the great OST.
The only part to be picky with the characters was the pervy-chara side of Sumire. And this kind of jokes among the female cast prevailed at times also past-confession which put the comedy more in focus than the actual icha-icha. But, I think they managed her serious conversations in-between nicely enough.
Now for the actual routes:
Spoiler for Tsubame:
Tsubame's route can be highly considered as the canon route. Why? Because Tsubasa remains at earth while Miyako still leaves the planet before the incoming end of the blue planet. Here you can see how a genki-type crumbles under the heavy preasure of doomsday and two of her close friends leaving the town and planet respectively. It was quite touching and emotional =(. And it was awesomely done how both of them - as lovers - decided to watch the final moment at the "glowing" sakura tree because the the falling star who's to destroy the earth is also named Sakura as was the name of the girl Tsubasa and she met a few times
.
And with the final moment where the asteroid rushes towars earth, it leaves a shower of shooting stars where both whispered one last wish - the wish for a future! And the whole scene covered in the awesome orchestrated(?) version of one of the two openings.
Spoiler for Sakura x2:
For all who sincerely hoped that there would be an actual Sakura-relationship route, you'll be disappointed. Both hiragana-sakura and kanji-sakura routes serves as the epilogue based on Tsubame's route. Then, surprise, surprise, the earth still exists. But, what about the fateful broadcast of an asteroid crashing into it? False alarm. It's purpose was to get all of the "immortals"(Tokushie) and their technology away from earth. Well, with exception of Tsubasa, Tsubame and ... *woosh* Sumire and Sakura. And thus the technology for everlasting life and its name slowly disappeared. And who knew all of it before? The very same Sumire and Sakura. The falling asteroid "Sakura" named after the person who discovered it. And so their whole background is covered in hiragana-Sakura's route and ends with both of them leaving on many journeys. Those silvery-rose hair color didn't suit Sumire imho
Kanji-Sakura plays many, many years later with Tsubame and Tsubasa still taking care of the daily life-club. And in the end they have a touching reunion (well mostly Tsubame) with none other than Miyako
. After 100 years of looking for a planet to live on, the spaceship returned back to earth.
But strangely, the creators decided to not mentioned Miyako's little sister Kanade who was on the same ship >_<.
Mahou's conclusion: If you don't mind (sudden) genre shifts and the forced playing order, it's worth to try it out, if only for the character interaction. I' re-read bits again in hope to understand a few details more I missed. For the imouto-type fans. Kanade, while not being the protagonist's sister, is very cute and adorable
. A route and real ending of Sakura would have been great as well, but the outcome for her wasn't, at least, negative.
