While there are folks who didn't like it, there are a greater number of people that's glued to game mode like hero siege/arena that centralized around hero units alone that extended WC3 popularity more than any other features had.

Not only that, if you compare WC3 and SC, you noticed that units are generally tougher but takes more time/resource to produce. Warcraft 3 were moving away from macromanagement combat that many other RTS relies on. Interesting enough, many progamers of SC leagues relies heavily on microing their units, not much different from WC3.

Just that, SC units are more dispensable while losing your heroes and your core force in WC3 means a big disadvantage that quickly lead to a defeat.
Well, I never said Heroes was a negative, only that it wasn't what SC was about. Those who want to play with heroes can certainly look forward to WC4 instead. Oh, and I never said there is no micro in SC; only that you need to be reasonably good at both aspects. SC players can specialise in micro if they chose, and they won't be penalised for it. This is the complete reverse in WC3, where the programmers intentionally force the players to focus on micro to the exclusion of everything else.

If WC3 players want more WC, they can wait for the next WC game, rather than demanding SC2 to change itself. I myself am a Diablo II fan, but you don't see me demanding SC2 get turned into an action RPG.

On another point, I fail to see how WC3 heroes is the next big thing in RTS. Last I checked, WC3 doesn't have two Korean TV channels dedicated to it...
