Maybe things will change as I go through the novels, (for the first time,) but knowing what I know from the anime, and what I have read so far, I'm surprised Koizumi's smugness hasn't netted a punch in the face from Kyon...
Only thing I can see why not is Japanese politeness, and that Koizumi's smugness and what ha says is always just on the right side of 'being right and useful.'
Otherwise I think he sometimes causes more trouble than he prevents...
