The swirly sharingan thing (have no cclue what it's called) he used at the gate. I think that is what drained his power first and heavy, then after he made that waterfountainbeastdragondogbear because of the sheer size + the time he had to keep it under control.
The use of sharingan goes further than only copy stuff..
well.. only thing I have to say further about this movie is: I think I liked the next one better..
