I think it does,the contract says that in exchange of granting a wish they have to fight witches,if the egg doesn't dim the girl could just get her wish granted but there'd be nothing forcing her to fight witches,she could just ignore her side of the deal.So there needs to be an incentive for the girl to uphold her side of the deal and that incentive could be that if they don't fight witches like they promised their eggs will dim.
Now maybe using your magical powers makes it dim faster than if you don't.
