will open an "Ten Master Clans Selection Conference" to determine which ten families will take the name
Ten Master Clans. The remaining 18 families that haven't been chosen will be called "18 auxiliary families" and will become the main families' supports.
Currently, the Ten Master Clans consisted of "Ichijou", "Futatsugi", "Mitsuya", "Yotsuba", "Itsuwa", "Mutsudzuka", "Saegusa", "Yatsushiro", "Kudou", and "Juumonji", which just happened to number from one to ten chronologically. However, this was the first time this had occurred since the Ten Master Clans had been formed, and there have been situations where one or two numbers were either duplicated or missing altogether.(The italic part is from Vol3 BT translation. It said the same thing.)
P.S. noted that the names might not be correct. I just romaji-ed them with my limited knowledge of Japanese.
