I was thinking more along the lines of the other girl, Sarashina. Her reaction when she heard about her crush on the teacher seemed unusual to me, coupled with the fact that she only started behaving unusually around him after she found out Sarashina had feelings for him. Chihiro believing she has a crush on him because of those interactions is a misunderstanding on her part. Couple this with her complete disinterest in having a relationship with any male, it leads me to believe she's a sexually confused adolescent at the very least. I'm not saying Shuu is gay by the way, that much has been clear since... chapter 31?
