Yeah, but a separate canon from the anime. For instance it was pretty obvious that in the anime Kirito and Asuna didn't meet for the first time in the same way they did in the novel.
The anime is its own thing, so certain events that happened in the novel might not happen in the anime, or might happen in a different way.
