Eh no. There wasn't a single episode I waited for on Monday evening just for the new Gundam variant or new character cameo I would see. I waited for each episode to see what happens next. A lot of battles ended with the same super move, but the journey into each battle was unique, and there were no annoying main characters.

The story WAS Sei's journey into greatness in a sport he truly loved but couldn't excel at. It was great exactly because it was so simple: A steady climb to the top, a crisis/climax, then resolution, as how all stories should be. No contrived and complicated plots and what-if philosophical questions like most recent Anime (especially Gundam), and where kids can be good at a game they play just for the enjoyment of it.

When we watch something, we want to be entertained, and this show delivered that and more.
