This is mostly unconfirmed, but he isn't actually useless. The sword thing the girl shoved into him eventually becomes his weapon, and he undergoes a personality change to a huge S when he draws it. Also, the dog is better than everyone in the series. Everyone. Don't know why the author did that but it's funny so whatever.
