Well, he was at least upset a "great ninja" like him had to be in the same team as a "loser" like Sasuke. But that's probably a matter of interpretation anyway. ^^;
Even though, I think it's unfair Sasuke is always the one who is criticized for their rivalry. Both of them want to be superior. After all, it was Naruto who began to use deadly jutsus in their fight on the rooftop, just to show his superiority. If Sasuke had done this, people would likely use this all the time to justify their hatred for him.
