I think the reason why they messed up Ai's arc is because they don't want her arc to outshine Tsukasa's arc. Its already hard to out do what they did to Haruka and Kaoru's arc so the writers are taking a back seat for a while until the final episode where we will get all the good stuff. I won't be surprised if they mess up Rihoko's arc but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
