I'm sorry, but the episode 10 flashbacks never properly convey Madoka was becoming stronger in each timeline. We certainly see Homura becoming better at using her powers in each iteration, and as Homura is able to inflict more damage on Walpurgisnacht, it takes Madoka less effort to finish the job in the first place. We also know the nature of Madoka's wish almost certainly changed in the much more desperate context of Timeline 4. But we're never shown a gradual increase in her base powers. And as far as Kyubey's "I'm surprised Madoka was able to beat Walpurgisnacht in one attack line" goes, all it establishes is just that. Madoka beat Walpurgisnacht in one attack. That might have actually meant something if we were ever shown how many attacks it took Madoka previously, and if it factored in the aforementioned variables of Homura becoming more useful and the origin of Madoka's powers radically changing. And Timeline 4 Gretchen only appears more powerful than Timeline 2 Gretchen because Homura left Timeline 2 before she was even fully formed. Literally every bit of evidence provided on-screen contradicts the "Madoka is independently becoming more powerful" concept.

It's like Urobuchi wrote the plot into a corner and then herp derped because he didn't want to go the Homura mimicking Kyoko's sacrifice / ultra grimdark route, even though the story up to that point was logically leading toward it. That's the only way I can explain it.

Nah, people in the ep 10 discussion thread saw that Madoka was getting more powerful, and thought that it was a direct result of something accumulating over the time loops

It seems to me that the current iteration of Madokas are much more powerful than her first iteration. Previously they struggled to defeat walpurgis, but the last iteration took it out in one shot.

Come to think of it, the out for Homura is already there. Madoka has been increasingly powerful every loop, probably due to her power stacking. At some point she should be able to take out the W-night witch without expending all her energy.

However the reverse effect is that everytime she becomes more powerful, she will become a more dangerous witch. Since the fate of the MS is fixed, Maokda could survive W-night but still end up a world destroyer a few years down the road.

If Madoka can vaguely recall what happens from the previous time loops, then maybe she can draw power from her other selves as well.

Thread search is your friend. Of course, I was one of the people who disagreed with the above idea, but you can't really say it was impossible to know Madoka was getting more powerful when a whole bunch of people figured it out after episode 10.
