Vampires burned by sunlight is a new adding to western myths. At first they were able to walk in sunlight, they just preferred night. BTW at first vampires were able to turn into bats, wolves and mist, with time vampires became stripped of their shapeshifting ability, probably to not be mistaken with werewolves
