They don't offer one. Same for the lack of Kirei's flashback during his father's death, etc.

Exactly. Their choices were:

1) Include the flashback and have the tension supposedly evaporate a little.

2) Not include the flashback at all and make the entire fight and Berserker's character basically meaningless and ruin all of the scenes' emotional weight and visceral impact.

And they actually chose the latter.

Not to mention not including the flashback doesn't excuse the piss poor manner in which Lancelot's dying moments were adapted.

Spoiler for Novel:

He was supposed to lay in Arturia's arms for the entirety of his monologue, which was considerably longer and different in the novel as well. He expressed satisfaction for dying in his king's arms, while lamenting the fact he was unable to remain a loyal knight. Then Saber thought about how she had to offer him some solace in the end by reassuring him that he was indeed a splendid knight, but his spirit faded away before she could bring herself to do it, leaving her in further despair. Pretty much all that was lost in adaptation with the rushed way the scene was adapted in episode 25 (which was silly to begin with since it belonged in episode 24).

The Sound Drama did the scene perfectly, so it's pretty disappointing the anime did it so half-assedly.
